My 18th First Day in The Bag!

Well, my 18th first day of school at NBHS has come and gone.  Really nice day, with good students.  Some new faces & some old ones as well.  I'm ready to get the year rolling & I know all the students are as well.  They have already probably looked to find the first holiday!  I think it's Labor Day! Ha!
Students remember that you need to have the syllabus printed out & placed in your notebook by Friday!

Supporting Faculty and Students in Developing Personal Learning Networks

When I first started this class, I actually had no idea what "web 2.0" meant. Now it is safe to say, I have a grasp on the concept!
Web 2.0 tools can help bridge the communication gap between all stakeholders in your school. With time at a premium in everyone's lives, podcasts, blogs, and other communication tools provide many facets to help keep everyone informed about what in happening within your school setting. We all know how our students LOVE to use their cell phones, why not give them a reason to utilize these devices in an educational way that helps develop and nurture a more positive school climate?
Now with this being stated, do I think that the use of web 2.0 tools is going to "miraculously" turn a none caring & disinterested parent, student, or even school employee into a well informed motivated stake holder? Not at all. On the other hand, it sure makes the excuse list ALOT shorter! Right of wrong, that's An Independent's View.

New To This..

I find "blogging" a little uncomfortable. It's as if I'm allowing millions of people into my mind! Anyway, as an educator I have to stay up to date and this is one small attempt to do just that. The title of my blog is derived from my political views. I don't drink the kool-aid of either political party. I consider myself a free thinker and would like my students embrace that independent streak. They tend to accept anything & everything they hear or read as fact. I consider a healthy dose of skepticism a good thing. And that's An Independents View for today.
